A few things: When I first heard about Dave and how Megadeth was formed out of spite I thought it was super lame. In my mind that permanently cemented Metallica as the bigger and better band. However I gave them a chance and was pleasantly surprised of the technicality and compositions of the songs. As a band they've done something unique. From this interview you can clearly see how Mustaine has thought about it and had this conversation in his head countless times, possibly every day since his firing. Lars, on the other hand, hasn't given it much thought and from his point of view it's not that big of a deal anymore. Both of them know the situation could've and should've been handled better. And yes, Mustaine was clearly at fault. Obviously it probably wouldn't work out in the long run with so many egos in the band. But using his material when he clearly asked them not to, then not crediting him and not paying any royalties...then Kirk getting all the glory - now that's a shitty backstabbing move. Lars was too preoccupied with Metallica's success and rise to fame to ever consider what they have done to Dave. And yeah, he's clearly successful in his own right...Megadeth is one of the biggest bands in metal. But Metallica is one of the biggest bands in the world. It's clear that he always felt like second best and living in their shadow...because he was. And he probably always thought "What could've been". It's understandble he was pissed off for so long. Anyway it's funny how the whole thing sounds like a romantic breakup story. Especially with Lars being "attracted" and Dave breaking a guy's leg because someone bullied his "little Danish friend" lol.
